Sturminster Newton High School Celebrates GCSE Success!

Students, families, staff and the entire community at Sturminster Newton High School are celebrating today as Year 11 students receive their GCSE and vocational results, marking the end of an important chapter in their secondary school journey.

For those collecting their results, today brings the reward for five years of hard work, challenge and growth. While Results Day is a moment to celebrate grades and qualifications, it is also a chance to reflect on how far these young people have come, both as students and individuals.

Today’s results are part of a much bigger journey. Over the past five years, students have navigated the challenges of secondary education, developed new skills and interests, built friendships and grown in confidence and independence. Today’s results are a reflection of that journey and the determination they have shown along the way.

Among those celebrating outstanding success are Erin, with an outstanding full set of 9 x Grade 9s, Rebecca, Honey, Sasvidu and Tristan who amongst them achieved some of the highest grades within the school.

The school is also particularly proud of students who have made exceptional progress during their time at SNHS. Excellent progress was achieved by Lola, Mykyta, Lily, Valentin and Maisie and we are thrilled to celebrate their progress made.

There have also been strong outcomes across a number of subject areas, with particularly positive results in French, Drama, Maths and Science, . These achievements reflect the commitment of students alongside the expertise, encouragement and support provided by teachers and support staff throughout their secondary education.

Mike Motteram, Headteacher, said:

“Today is a really special day for our Year 11 students, their families and the entire local community. We have had the privilege of watching these young people grow over the last five years and today is about celebrating not just what they have achieved academically, but who they have become.

“Results are important for next steps, and we are delighted to celebrate some fantastic individual achievements. But we also know that a set of grades can never tell the whole story. Behind every result is a young person who has worked, persevered, overcome challenges and continued to develop.

“What makes me particularly proud is seeing the different paths our students are now taking. There is no single definition of success and no single route into the future. Whether our students are heading into sixth form, college, an apprenticeship, employment or further training, we want them to leave SNHS believing in themselves and ready to take on their next challenge.

“At SNHS, we really do believe that it takes a village to raise a child. Today is a celebration of the students, but it is also a celebration of the families, teachers, support staff and wider community who have helped them reach this point – celebrating the entire village.”

As the celebrations continue, our Year 11 students now look ahead to their next steps. Many are looking to progress their studies at Sixth Form or college; for others, an apprenticeship or employment. For many of our students, they will be continuing their journey with us at Sturminster Newton High School Sixth Form, and we are delighted to welcome them into the next stage of their education.

Our Sixth Form offers students the opportunity to continue their studies in a small, supportive and ambitious environment, with small class sizes, a broad range of academic and vocational opportunities, and a dedicated team of staff who know our students well and provide the individual care, guidance and support they need to succeed. Students also benefit from a wide range of enrichment, leadership and personal development opportunities, helping them to develop not only the qualifications but also the confidence, independence and skills needed for life beyond school.

For students who are still considering their options, it is not too late to find out more about what SNHS Sixth Form has to offer. Whether you are looking to continue familiar subjects, explore a new area of study or simply want to understand how we can support your next steps, our Sixth Form team would be very happy to talk to you about the opportunities available and the places we still have.

If you are considering joining SNHS Sixth Form, please get in touch with the school or our Sixth Form team to arrange a conversation and find out more. Please also visit our website www.mysnhs.net/sixth-form

Whatever path our students choose, we wish them continued success, happiness and confidence as they begin the next chapter of their journey.
