Media Studies

The Media Studies curriculum ensures that all students, regardless of background or experience, access an ambitious and knowledge-rich curriculum that prepares them to engage critically with the modern media landscape. High expectations and careful sequencing enable students to build understanding progressively and confidently.

Students develop analytical skills through the study of media language, representation, audience and industry, learning how media texts are constructed and interpreted. Practical production work is embedded throughout the curriculum, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge creatively while developing technical and digital skills.

Learning is carefully structured to move from foundational concepts to more complex analysis and independent production. Students are encouraged to question media messages, challenge stereotypes and evaluate the social and cultural impact of media in a rapidly changing world.

The curriculum develops independence, resilience and critical thinking, alongside communication and problem-solving skills that are transferable beyond the subject. Media Studies prepares students for further study, creative industries and informed participation in society, ensuring they leave school as confident, critical consumers and creators of media.
