The Science curriculum is underpinned by the belief that every student is entitled to a challenging, inclusive and knowledge-rich education, with high expectations for all. Equity of provision is central to curriculum design, ensuring that consistently high-quality teaching and learning takes place in every science classroom so that all students can achieve highly and develop confidence and curiosity about the scientific world.
We deliberately nurture the attributes that underpin scientific thinking, including curiosity, integrity, objectivity, problem solving and global awareness. Through carefully planned learning experiences, students are supported to make sense of the world around them and to recognise the vital role science plays in society. Science is experienced positively, with students developing enjoyment, resilience and confidence when approaching unfamiliar or complex content.
The curriculum is carefully sequenced to develop secure scientific knowledge across Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Knowledge and skills are introduced, revisited and deepened over time, enabling students to interpret, question and analyse the world using scientific principles. This coherent sequencing supports long-term retention and meaningful application of learning.
The Science curriculum is planned as a coherent 5–7 year pathway from Year 7 to Year 11 and into Year 13. Units are designed in line with the National Curriculum, AQA GCSE and OCR A-level specifications, ensuring purposeful progression. By the time students leave school, they are equipped with the disciplinary knowledge, practical competencies and cultural capital required for further study, STEM pathways and active participation in an increasingly scientific and technological global community.
